PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a tetrakis(fluoroaryl)borate-magnesium compound in which hydrogen fluoride causing corrosion of a production apparatus and requiring much labor for discharge treatment is not generated. SOLUTION: This method for producing the tetrakis(fluoroaryl)borate-magnesium compound represented by formula (1) (R<SB>1</SB>to R<SB>5</SB>are each independently H, F, a hydrocarbon group or an alkoxy group and at least one of R<SB>1</SB>to R<SB>5</SB>is F; X<SB>a</SB>is Cl, Br or I) comprises reacting a boron compound represented by the formula (2): B(X<SB>c</SB>)<SB>3</SB>with a fluorinated aryl magnesium halide represented by formula (3) (wherein R<SB>1</SB>to R<SB>5</SB>are each the same as prescribed above; X<SB>b</SB>is Cl, Br or I) within the range of 3.0 mol equivalent to 3.7 mol equivalent in an ether solvent.
