PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing lightweight ceramic which hardly causes deterioration of strength, enables control of pore sizes, makes variation of pore sizes little and stable and pays due regard in operational environment and safety of environment on firing. SOLUTION: Raw materials made by mixing carbon source to raw materials of oxide type ceramic is formed, is fired in a reducing environment and, thereafter, is further fired in an oxidative environment.
