Method for calculation and output of a counter or copy value for a printer or copier, whereby the copy or print events are recorded in the central unit of the printer using counters. At least one counter state is reproduced by a control unit (12, 14) and output to an output unit. An Independent claim is made for a device for determination and output of a printer or copier number of copies value, whereby a control unit reproduces the number of copies and outputs it to an output unit (16).
