PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a skin care preparation which contains an active ingredient having an excellent moisture-retaining effect and an excellent chapped skin-improving effect and is useful for the skin.

SOLUTION: Researches have zealously been repeated to obtain an ingredient having an excellent effect an improving / preventing the chapped skin. Consequently, it has been found that an extract of a plant belonging to the family Ophiolossaceae has the excellent moisture-retaining effect and the excellent chapped skin-improving effect. This skin care preparation for the external use contains the extract of the plant belonging to the family Ophiolossaceae.
