<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that performs a satisfactory transfer process by supplying an appropriate voltage/current to a transfer means. <P>SOLUTION: A transfer voltage is applied from a transfer power source circuit to a transfer roll as pre-transfer processing, the voltage value V and current value i of the output are detected, and a transfer voltage V<SB>0</SB>(=V-Ri) actually applied to the transfer roll and the impedance Z(=V<SB>0</SB>/i) of a transfer roll system are calculated (steps 100 to 104). Next, on the basis of the impedance Z, a transfer voltage value V<SB>t</SB>to be set, a transfer current value i<SB>t</SB>(=V<SB>t</SB>/Z) and an amount (R×i<SB>t</SB>) of voltage drop due to a resistance value R, the output voltage value V<SB>1</SB>(=V<SB>t</SB>+Ri<SB>t</SB>) for the transfer power source is set. Then, the transfer voltage V<SB>t</SB>is applied to the transfer roll to perform a main transfer process (steps 106 to 110).
