PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reed switch capable of using a reliable and adaptable laser with low cost and economical at energy consumption. SOLUTION: Radiation energy ray 21 is locally irradiated during a specific period toward at least one part P of metal reeds 5, 7 through a tube 3 in order to adjust a switch gap at the part where the metal reeds 5, 7 inserted into a glass tube 3 are overlapped. By the above, a thermal bending is created around one part P of the reeds 5, 7. Here, a radiation source generating radiant energy having a range of wavelength absorbed in considerable amount, is used. The radiant energy ray is focused and quantified so that the proportion of at least one irradiated metallic area of the reeds 5, 7 to the irradiated volume of the glass of the tube 3 may cause a temperature increase of less than 100 kelvin to the temperature of the glass, during the period necessary for heating the metal up to a melting point.
