PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-performance scanning optical device which reduces the influence of an imaging position shift in a horizontal scanning direction between scanning lines even in case of misarrangement between the scanning optical device and a drum as a multi-beam scanning optical device which uses a plurality of light sources having a plurality of light emission points. SOLUTION: Intervals of all spots on a scanned surface in the horizontal scanning direction are set shorter than horizontal-scanning-directional intervals of straight lines which are so set as to pass spots of the same light source and reach vertical scanning intervals that all spots occupy.
