METHOD OF DRAWING GLASS MEMBER AND GLASS PIPE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the infiltration of hydrogen to a core part of a glass rod in a glass member for manufacturing an optical fiber to prevent the increase of transmission loss in 1.38μm (α1.38). SOLUTION: In drawing the glass member having the glass rod containing a core part and a clad part around the core part, the glass member is left standing in an atmosphere equal to or below the softening temperature for≥10 min before drawing. After that, the glass member is drawn under an atmosphere in which the temperature is increased to a drawable temperature. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
