PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely stop a foot step at appropriate decelerated speed and within a prescribed stopping distance at the time of operation of a safety device. SOLUTION: The passenger conveyor is equipped with a direct-current power source 9, a load detection device 10 and a brake control device 11. The direct-current power source 9 transforms alternative-current power of the alternative power source 1 to direct-current power of the variable voltage, and supplies the direct-current power to the coil of an electric motor 3. The load detection device 10 detects the load of the passenger conveyor and outputs a load detected value SI. The brake control device 11 outputs an ignition signal Sg to the direct-current power source 9 so as to be the prescribed stopping distance based on the load detected value SI. A braking torque of the electric motor 3 is controlled so as to be the prescribed stopping distance based on the load detected value SI, and the foot step 5 is stopped at the constant decelerated speed irrespective of the size of the load of the passenger conveyor. The foot step 5 is securely stopped at appropriate decelerated speed and within the prescribed stopping distance at the time of operation of the safety device 7 thereby. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
