PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compensate for lower maneuverability with the insufficient friction force of a tire by giving a short braking distance to an automobile, smoothing starting operation and stabilize directivity, independently of the existence of snow or the like on a frozen road surface. SOLUTION: As arms 3a, 3b are lowered, a frame 2 removes snow or the like from the frozen road surface or enters it to cause an edge 1 to contact an ice layer. Friction force or cutting resistance generated therein is transmitted to a body for assisting braking operation. During operation of the edge 1, this device transmits driving force of moving a rail 11 to the body for assisting the starting operation. A linear direction changing edge being interlocked with steering operation is operated on the ice layer for transmitting directional property to the body and assisting the steering operation (not illustrated, and a mechanism similar to that shown in the figure). The working effects of the edge are supported by an elevatable mechanism in a flexible structure with an elastic body 9, developing useful effects including efficiency. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
