<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To be useful for a diagnosis of a tissue by quantifying fineness of a speckle (speckle pattern) contained in an ultrasonic image. <P>SOLUTION: An interested region is set on the ultrasonic image, and binarized in the image in the interested region while a threshold value is being scanned. The number of islands of high luminance is calculated for the binarized image of each threshold value, and a speckle evaluation graph is formed as its histogram. The speckle evaluation graph reflects tissue properties, and the tissue can be diagnosed by a numerical analysis of the form of the graph. Prior to the binarizing process, it is desired to perform a process for highlighting the speckle (for processing to remove a base component).
