<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent cross light by respectively recording and reproducing information onto/from a land/groove magneto-optic recording medium with optimum recording light power and reproducing light power. <P>SOLUTION: This method is for determining the optimum recording light quantity of the land/groove optical recording medium. A test pattern 96 is recorded on a land 90 with a predetermined recording light quantity, and test patterns 98 and 99 are recorded on grooves 92 and 94 with various recording light quantity. The difference between a reproduced signal from a magnetic domain 80 sandwiched by the test patterns 98 and 99 of the test pattern 96 and a reproduced signal from an unsandwiched magnetic domain 82 is calculated for each recording light quantity of the test patterns 98 and 99. The recording light quantity of the test patterns 98 and 99 in the case that the difference between the reproduced signals is within a prescribed range, for example, the maximum recording light quantity in recording light quantity is determined as the optimum recording light quantity. The optimum reproducing light quantity can also be determined by changing the reproducing light quantity to a magnetic domain recorded with various recording light quantity into various values and reproducing the values.
