<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To implement an interface for input of avatar movement representing a user in a virtual space at low cost and via an intuitive and simple operation. <P>SOLUTION: A virtual space gesture input system 1 is so designed that a pressure detection panel 11 is placed on a desk with a top using a transparent acrylic plate 12 or the like, information on contact of a user's hand giving a gesture with the pressure detection panel 11 is imaged by a video camera 13 from behind, and a video signal is input into a terminal device 21A. The terminal device 21A recognizes the number, region and the like of pressure detection points by fingers, the hand or the like from the video signal, and refers to a gesture recognition condition table according to the obtained number, region and the like of pressure detection points to convert the contact information into an avatar gesture instruction. The terminal device 21A uses the avatar gesture instruction to control a movement of an associated avatar in a virtual space drawn on a CRT display 22A, or transmits the avatar gesture instruction to another user's terminal to control an avatar movement therein. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
