PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent plastic optical fiber cord with well-balanced light transmissivity, bending characteristics and moist heat resistance or the like, for which a numerical aperture is as high as 0.60 or more, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: For the plastic optical fiber cord 11, a coating layer 13 is closely adhered to the outer periphery of a plastic optical fiber 12 composed of a core and a clad and the coating layer 13 is formed of a first coating layer and a second coating layer on the outer periphery. Then, the first coating layer is composed of resin whose main component is polypropylene, an outer diameter including the second coating layer is 1.8-2.5 mmϕand the thickness (t1) of the first coating layer and the thickness (t2) of the second coating layer are in the relation of 0.10≤t1/(t1+t2)≤0.55. Further, the adhesion power of the plastic optical fiber and the first coating layer is 30N or more, the adhesion power of the first coating layer and the second coating layer is 40N or more and a theoretical numerical aperture is 0.60-0.65.
