PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head performing high density recording while preventing the side erasing in the magnetic head of a perpendicular magnetic recording system using a rotary actuator, and to provide a magnetic disk drive, of which the high capacity is attainable. SOLUTION: The magnetic head characterized by that the surface of the magnetic poles facing a magnetic medium is formed to be positioned within the range of information track width even though it is on any position on the magnetic medium at the recording or reproducing operation, or the magnetic head characterized by that the surface of the upper magnetic pole facing the magnetic medium is formed circular having the diameter equal to or smaller than the information track width formed on the magnetic medium, is provided, and whichever magnetic head of the above heads is mounted on this magnetic disk drive.
