PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder discriminating device of an internal combustion engine capable of accurately and surely detecting a reference position for each cylinder without relying upon the rotating state. SOLUTION: This cylinder discriminating device comprises a means for generating crank angle signals according to the rotation of a crankshaft 12, a means for generating cylinder discriminating signals according to the rotation of a camshaft 11, a means for detecting a reference position based on crank angle signals, a means for setting a cylinder discrimination interval based on the reference position, a means for specifying each cylinder based on the cylinder discrimination signals in the cylinder discrimination interval, and a rotating state detection means for detecting a low rotation range and a high rotation range. The reference position detection means comprises a first detection processing means for validating processing specifications corresponding to a low rotation range operation state and a second detection processing means for validating processing specifications corresponding to a high rotation range operating state.
