PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily manufacture a large optical fiber preform 1 used for manufacturing an optical fiber with a low loss at a wavelength of 1,385 nm and no increase in scattering loss. SOLUTION: The process comprises a glass body-manufacturing step wherein an anhydrous glass body 11' is manufactured, a rod-drawing step wherein the anhydrous glass body 11' is heated and drawn into an anhydrous glass rod 11 and a unification step wherein the anhydrous glass rod 11 is unified with a glass pipe 12. In the unification step, drawing of a unified product, obtained by unifying the glass pipe 12 with the anhydrous glass rod 11, is also performed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
