PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce occurrence of a false signal caused by nonlinear processing, particularly, by gamma correction and to perform contour emphasis regardless of the level of a trunk signal. SOLUTION: A low-pass filter 71 applies low-pass filtering for lowering the level of a high frequency component to an input digital video signal and in accordance with the level of the digital video signal to which low-pass filtering is applied, a coefficient generating circuit 72 generates multiplication coefficient data and addition coefficient data for linearly approximating a nonlinear processing curve for each block wherein the nonlinear processing curve is divided into a plurality of continuous blocks. Then, a multiplier 73 multiplies the multiplication coefficient data to the input digital video signal, and an adder 74 adds the addition coefficient data to the digital video signal to which the multiplication coefficient data are multiplied.
