PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup system capable of switching an automatic exposure control and a double exposure control in accordance with the density state of an image, suppressing blooming even when a strong light source such as the head lamp of an oncoming car is present at night, and outputting clear images without causing flicker even when any strong light source is not present. SOLUTION: This image pickup system is provided with an IR lamp for irradiating the front part with infrared rays, a CCD camera 5 for imaging the front part, and for converting it into an electric signal, and an image processing unit 7 for switching automatic exposure control to continuously and periodically output images by fixing the signal storage time of the CCD camera 5 to a constant period and double exposure control to continuously and periodically output images whose exposure is different by changing the signal storage time of the CCD camera 5 in predetermined periods. The image processing unit 7 is configured to switch the automatic exposure control and the double exposure control according to the concentration states of the images. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
