PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiplex communication system for improving the reliability of data communication by preventing data from being lost when data are relayed while relieving a communication load on a relay destination. SOLUTION: In the data relay apparatus 4, a buffer group for temporarily storing relay data is configured with a first buffer group 411 for temporarily storing data received from a multiplex communication line 21 of a relay source and a second buffer group 43 for temporarily storing data prior to transmission of the data to a multiplex communication line 22 of a relay destination, each of the buffer groups 411, 43 comprises a plurality of buffers for temporarily storing relay data by each kind, and the data stored in the buffers are overwritten only by newest data of the same kind. Even when a transfer processing rate to the second buffer group 43 is slowed down in order to avoid increase in the communication load on a communication system 12 of the relay destination, data of a part of data kinds are not lost by many amounts of data from a high speed communication system 11.
