PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk system capable of easily setting a virtual drive to achieve a changer function. SOLUTION: When an optical disk 3 is inserted to an optical disk drive 1, a host device 2 determines whether a normal reproduction is to be performed or information is to be stored into a hard disk 8. When it is determined that the storage of information is to be made, the optical disk drive 1 reads the whole information recorded on the optical disk 3 and stores the read information in the virtual CD areas 81 to 8n at each disk. In this case, the host device 2 automatically generates one virtual drive in each of the virtual CD areas 81 to 8n and recognizes the virtual drives as a single disk drive unit. Thus, each virtual drive is set only by inserting the optical disk 3, so that a user himself/herself has no necessity to generate the virtual drive. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
