In an installation comprising a gas turbine and a machine (such as an electric generator) driven thereby, a flow of cooling air is caused to flow through the machine, the flow of cooling air being produced by utilizing the exhaust gases from the gas turbine in an ejector device. In the embodiment shown an electric generator 15 is driven by a gas turbine 11, the exhaust gases from the turbine discharging through an outlet duct 14 as indicated by arrows 29, the duct 14 being closely surrounded by a casing 23 so as to form an ejector device whereby cooling air is caused to flow into the casing as indicated by the arrows 25, through the electric generator, arrows 24, and thence to the ejector, arrows 26, 27, 28. The gas turbine 11 is supplied with combustion gases from a gas turbine type gas generator 10 which is mounted on a supporting structure 21 above the electric generator 15, air entering the compressor of the gas generator 10 as indicated by arrow 22 and combustion gases discharging from the gas generator to the power turbine 11 through duct 12. The electric generator is supported in bearings 17, 18 and the power turbine 11 in a bearing 20. The cooling air discharging from the electric generator is caused to flow over the gas generator 10 on its passage to the ejector 28. |
