PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymerizable liquid crystal composition containing a swallow-tail type of a polymerizable compound, excellent in compatibility with a liquid crystal compound, and having a small dipole moment, and also to provide an optically anisotropic material, excellent in anisotropicity and transparency, which contains a polymer obtained by polymerizing liquid crystal molecules in an arrayed state in the above polymerizable compound. SOLUTION: The polymerizable liquid crystal composition is prepared by incorporating a swallow-tail type of polymerizable compound having a cyano group at a molecular terminal with a polymerizable compound having a small dipole moment. The optically anisotropic material is characterized by having a polymer obtained by polymerizing polymerizable liquid crystal molecules in an arrayed state in the above polymerizable composition.
