A machine for packing liquid products ineludes a plurality of packing units each comprising a station adapted to form a continuous sheath of flexible, non-elastic thermoplastic sheet material, a station forming a wide transverse weld on said sheath which weld forms a pocket thereabove and, together with a previous weld, a sealed packet of liquid therebelow, a station ensuring in a cyclic way a longitudinal downward shift ing of said sheath, a filling station which pours the liquid into the pocket produced by said transverse weld, a gauging station provided with two parallel plates, the spacing of which is adjustable accurately, to ensure accurate volumetric dosing of the liquid in said packet, and a cutting station. The machine can be adapted, by providing additional welding and cutting means, to produce packets whose volumes are submultiples of those normally produced. In the arrangement shown webs 4 are slit into elementary strips 3 which are fed in pairs to two units A and B at each of which the strips are formed into a sheath 2 about a filling pipe 15, by longitudinal welding jaws 7, liquid is fed into the sheath 2 by pipe 15 from a vat 17 supplied with liquid from line 18 and having an overflow 19, which maintains a constant liquid level in the vat and thus in the sheath 2. Each transverse weld is made by jaws 8 and the completed packets 12 are pulled downwards and severed from the sheath by nippers and cutters 13. To ensure accurate dosing of each packet the sheath is pulled between two gauge plates 9, 10 at least one of which is accurately adjustable relative to the other. |
