A copying lathe comprises a slide 5 mounted on a dovetailed guide 2 on a saddle 1, an hydraulic copying cylinder 9 on the slide 5 at one side of a housing 7, 8 therefor, the cylinder 9 being mounted above one of two adjustable gibs 3, 4 for the dovetail 2, and a stop drum 11 and distributing slide valve 10 disposed parallel to the cylinder 9 at the other side of the housing, the line of action of the hydraulic cylinder 9 passing directly above a point S at which the frictional forces on the gibs during cutting are in balance so that any tendency to jamming of the slide on the guide is eliminated. A lever 29 mounted pivotally on trunnions 19, 20 on the cylinder 7 carries a follower 30 which contacts the template 31, a pin 25 which controls the valve 10 and a pin 23 which displaces the stop drum 11. The latter has a stop 12 engageable with a counter-stop 18 on a rod 28 fixed to the lathe saddle, the function of which is to limit the depth of the first rough cut in following the template. |
