[Also in Division H1] Control apparatus for the electric motor of an electric vehicle comprises two pedals 8, 10 interconnected by coupling 11 such that the depression of one pedal from the neutral position, which operates a retractive switch 21 or 24, results in the raising of the other pedal. The switches 21, 24 are operated by means of rollers 20, 23 engaged in recesses 18, 22 of respective sleeves 5 and 6 to which the levers 7 and 9 are connected. These switches determine the direction of rotation of the motor, whilst voltage control 17, operated by rollers 15 engaging levers 13, 14, controls the voltage applied to the motor. The switches could also be operated by the coupling 11. The pedals may be returned to the neutral position by a further pedal 25 having lateral projections engaging the higher of the two pedal levers. This further pedal may also operate a mechanical brake. A braking circuit may be completed at the neutral position of the pedals. Further, a friction drive may be associated with one or more of the pedals to operate a switch on the return of a depressed pedal to its neutral position so as to provide electrical braking by reversing the flow of motor current. This braking may be proportional to the rate of return to the neutral position, and may cease at the neutral position or a predetermined time later. |
