<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing the life of an image carrier from being remarkably reduced when an interval between both recording materials is made longer than it is required. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises a charging member 2 for charging the image carrier 1, a charging voltage impressing part 3 for impressing charging voltage to the charging member 2, an exposure part 111 for forming an electrostatic latent image, a development part 134 for forming a toner image, a transfer part 113 for continuously transferring the toner image to a plurality of recording materials, and a control part 4 for controlling charging AC voltage. The control part 4 sets the charging AC voltage to an area on the image carrier 1 which corresponds to the carrying interval between a plurality of recording materialsas 1st charging AC voltage when the carrying interval is shorter than a prescribed interval or sets the charging AC voltage to the area on the image carrier 1 which corresponds to the carrying interval as 2nd charging AC voltage when the carrying interval is longer than the prescribed interval and sets the current value of a current made to flow into the charging member 2 when the 2nd charging AC voltage is impressed lower than the current value of a current made to flow into the charging member 2 when the 1st charging AC voltage is impressed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
