MANUFACTURING METHOD FOR OPTICAL COMPENSATOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a large-scale manufacturing method for an optical compensator for a liquid crystal display.

SOLUTION: The manufacturing method for the optical compensator comprises the steps of: (a) forming a resin-containing coating on a continuous base by applying a liquid composition containing a photo-alignable resin in a solvent; (b) drying the resin-containing coating for 4 to 10 seconds; (c) forming an orientable layer by orienting the resin-containing layer in a predetermined direction; (d) forming a liquid-crystal containing coating by applying liquid containing an liquid crystal compound in a solvent carrier; and (e) drying the liquid-crystal containing layer to form a liquid crystal containing layer, and further includes the steps of heat treating the orientable layer before and/or after orientation and heating the orientable layer at a temperature of 25 to 300°C for at least 30 seconds.
