<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device of a translucent reflection type capable of performing bright display even in a transmission mode and a method for manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal layer 4 held between an upper substrate 1 and lower substrate 2 arranged to face each other, a pair of polarizing layers 26 (polarizing plates 17 and polarizing layers 26) disposed above and below the liquid crystal layer 4 and reflection layers 21 partially disposed within respective dots. The polarizing layers 26 are formed on the upper side of electrode layers 25 disposed on the inside surface side of the lower substrate 2 in order to improve a voltage to the liquid crystal layer 4.
