PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyamide composition which inhibits the increase of yellowness degree, prevents thermal decomposition, has a stable melt viscosity, and has excellent mechanical properties such as toughness, even when subjected to repeated thermal histories or to a thermal history for a long time, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This polyamide composition comprising (a) a polyamide, (b) at least one phosphorous compound selected from the group consisting of phosphoric acid compounds, phosphorous acid compounds, hypophosphorous acid compounds, metal phosphates, metal phosphites, metal hypophosphites, phosphate esters, and phosphite esters, and (c) a soluble metal aluminate represented by the general formula: (M<SB>2</SB>O)<SB>X</SB>(Al<SB>2</SB>0<SB>3</SB>)<SB>Y</SB>(X+Y=1, and M is the first family metal element in the periodic table) is characterized in that a multi-valent metal / monovalent metal molar ratio in the composition is 0.25 to 1.0.
