PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid state image pickup device which can reducing fixed pattern noise and its signal readout method. SOLUTION: One clock amplitude control circuit 10 is provided as a common clock source of vertical switches 1c of all pixels, output of the clock amplitude control circuit 10 is connected with a drain of a line selection switch 12, a source of the line selection switch 12 is connected with a line selection line 14 and a gate of a vertical selection switch 1c is connected with the line selection line 14. A scan clock to be outputted from a vertical scanner 2 is connected with a gate of the line selection switch 12 and simultaneously connected with a gate of an nMOS switch 18 via an inverter 16. As for the nMOS switch 18, a drain is connected with the line selection line 14 and a source is connected with a ground. A clock the amplitude of which is equivalent to the output of the clock amplitude control circuit 10 is supplied to gates of each vertical selection switch 1c in timing synchronized with the scan clock to be outputted from the vertical scanner 2.
