PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a miniaturized and lightweight magnetic sensor having a high sensitivity. SOLUTION: The magnetic sensor having a laminated structure of a magnetic material layer and a nonmagnetic material layer and having a soft-magnetic material layer for sensing magnetic field in the magnetic layer includes a thin film magnetoresistive element 5 in which the magnetic state of the soft-magnetic material layer for sensing magnetic field is changed by the magnetic coupling and in which the magnetic resistance of the element is varied and a transmission line 4 in which the thin film magnetoresistive element 5 is arranged in the line whose one end is connected to a detection system 3 and in which the impedance is varied by a variation in the resistance of the thin film magnetoresistive element 5. When the magnetic state of the soft-magnetic body layer for sensing magnetic field is changed by receiving the magnetic coupling, the impedance of the transmission line 4 is finally also varied by the variation in the magnetic resistance of the thin film magnetoresistive element 5. Thus, in detecting an external magnetic field by superimposing an alternate, particularly radio frequency, carrier component, the subject magnetism can be detected at a high sensitivity, through a variation in the impedance of the transmission line 4.
