PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for an arc tube of a discharge lamp capable of surely and rapidly sealing quartz and metal parts such as an internal electrode and heat-resistant metal foil for forming the arc tube of a discharge lamp. SOLUTION: A sealing part with the electrode 46 and the like of the arc tube 41 formed of transparent quartz is irradiated with a laser beam 21 from a carbon dioxide gas laser 20 absorbed by the quartz to heat the quartz, and the heat-resistant metal foil 45 and an electrode rod 46 are irradiated and heated with an infrared ray 31 radiated from a halogen lamp 30 and absorbed by the metal parts by converging the infrared ray with a lens 32.
