PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sludge treatment method achieving the effective solubilization of excess sludge, returning the solubilized sludge to a biological treatment tank to decompose the same into water and carbon dioxide in the biological treatment tank to prevent the generation of excess sludge to the utmost or reducing the amount of sludge. SOLUTION: Pretreatment is applied to excess sludge generated from wastewater treatment facilities to lower the viscosity of sludge. Thereafter, hydrolytic enzyme is added to the treated sludge to solubilize excess sludge. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
