PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic field generator furthermore improved in intensity of the magnetic field, and an MRI apparatus using the same. SOLUTION: Permanent magnets 12a, 12b, 14a, 14b, 16a, 16b, 18a, 18b, 20a, 20b, 22 and 24 are disposed in a ring formation so that a magnetic field generated space 30 is formed. A pair of ferromagnetic bodies 26a and 26b are provided in a place which is close to the magnetic field generated space 30 and where a magnetic flux passes through. A magnetized direction of the permanent magnets 12a, 14a, 16a, 18a and 20a around the ferromagnetic body 26a is arranged so that the ferromagnetic body 26a side be the S pole. A magnetized direction of the permanent magnets 12b, 14b, 16b, 18b and 20b around the ferromagnetic body 26b is arranged so that the ferromagnetic 26b side be the N pole.
