A qualitative gas analyzer withdraws a predetermined sample volume from surrounding environment using a sampling unit and delivers it to a measurement unit. The sampling and measuring units are within a sample-flow channel. The gaseous sample is dissolved in a solvent before being transferred to the measurement unit under the influence of an applied force field. A qualitative gas analyzer withdraws a predetermined sample volume from surrounding environment using a sampling unit (2) and delivers it to a measurement unit (3). The sampling and measuring units are sequentially mounted, at least partially within a sample-flow channel (4). The gaseous sample is dissolved in a solvent e.g. water, before being transferred (17) via channel (4) to the measurement unit under the influence of an applied force field, which is generated by electrodes (8,10;13,14) above and below the flow channel (4,12). The gas sample flowrate into the apparatus may be controlled by a pump and a flowmeter.
