A bearing means for the lower journal pin 41 between the lower members of the fixed frame and casement reversible through 180‹ about a central axis X as disclosed in Specification 1,071,914 comprises an elongated plate 39 adapted to be fixed to the lower rail 38 of the fixed frame so that longitudinal sealing rib 45 is abutted by sealing strip 46 extending from the lower rail 43 of the casement when in either of the two closed positions, the plate 39 being formed with an upwardly opening annular socket 40 which interrupts the rib 45 and is for receiving the journal pin 41 and with an upstanding flange 48 partially surrounding the orifice of the socket on one side of the plate 39, the flange 48 having its ends 53 substantially continuous with the ribs 45 and having a height at least equal to that of the rib 45. The bearing preferably comprises an annulus 50 of thermoplastic material which surrounds the pin 41 between the flange 48 and the socket 40 and is contiguous with the sealing strip 46 on opposite sides of the socket to give weather protective cover to the pin 41 on one side of the window aperture. The annulus 50 may also have a depending part annular portion 50; the ends of which abut the flange 48 and so cover the other side of the pin 41 and prevent rotation of the annulus 50 with the casement frame. The annulus 50 is prevented from dislocation by inwardly extending flanges which sit on a shoulder formed on the flange 48. An alternative form of annulus 50 is described and has a pair of diametrically opposite radial arms which abut against the sealing strip 46 on opposite sides of the socket 40 (Figs. 8-11 not shown). |
