A rotary-spherical valve with a two-part cast-casing has a saddle-shaped rotor journalled by a diametral spindle 4, Fig. 3, manually operated through a worm and wheel. The rotor embodies a circular part having a spherically. surfaced peripheral ring 10 that co-operates with a seat 11, Fig. 1, the latter being retained by a ring 12; the rotor has side members 3a, 3b, Fig. 3, which upstand from the circular part across the spindle and define a U-shaped passage which is laterally open to the side of the casing and offset around a cut-away middle portion of the spindle. Fluid flowing through the rotor passage uses part of the side of the casing to compensate for the diversion caused by the spindle, which diversion is smoothed by a faired part 3c, Fig. 1, of the rotor. In a modification, the casing is fabricated from a cylindrical body (6, Fig. 6, not shown), annular end plates (17, 18), flanges (19) and rings (20), between two of which latter the seat 11 is mounted. In either embodiment the seat may be mounted on the rotor instead of the casing.
