EXHAUST GAS PURIFYING CATALYST

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas purifying catalyst capable of retaining the catalytic activity of Rh at a high level over a prolonged period of time and capable of ensuring excellent exhaust gas cleaning performance.

SOLUTION: The exhaust gas purifying catalyst is prepared in such a way that it contains a compound oxide having a perovskite structure represented by the formula ABRhO3(where A is at least one element selected from among rare earth elements essentially including rare earth elements whose valence does not vary from 3 and optionally including Ce and/or Pr and B is at least one element selected from among Al and transition elements other than Co, Rh or the rare earth elements).
