PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera system in which it can be recognized that a lens is an inappropriate lens on a camera side in the case that the inappropriate interchangeable lens is mounted. SOLUTION: By one form of this invention, the camera system provided with a camera main body and the interchangeable lens attachable and detachable to/from the camera main body is characterized in that it is provided with: a camera side arithmetic means provided in the camera main body, which has an arithmetic expression for performing a prescribed arithmetic operation; a lens side arithmetic means provided in the interchangeable lens, which has the arithmetic expression in common with the camera side arithmetic means; an arithmetic operation data output means provided on the camera main body side for outputting common data for the arithmetic operation to the camera side arithmetic means and the lens side arithmetic means; and a judgement means provided on the camera main body side for comparing results computed in the camera side arithmetic means and the lens side arithmetic means and judging that an appropriate interchangeable lens is mounted on the camera main body in the case that both arithmetic results match.
