PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a simpler configuration for a control unit without the need for arranging a port and a memory in the control unit for each external terminal. SOLUTION: A control unit 1 is equipped with a set of transmitting blocks comprising a transmission port 3, a transmission memory 9, and a transmission standby memory 8; and a set of receiving blocks comprising a reception port 4, a reception memory 13, and a reception completion memory 12. Transmission gates 5a-5n and reception gates 6a-6n are provided for each communication channel connecting a plurality of external terminals 2a-2n of the control unit 1. Each of transmission gates 5a-5n is connected to the transmission port 3 in parallel, and each of reception gates 6a-6n is connected to the reception port 4 in parallel. Transmission gates 5a-5n are controlled by a transmission gate control circuit 10 to create a transmission path for any of the external terminals 2a-2n, and reception gates 6a-6n are controlled by a reception gate control circuit 14 to create a reception path for any of the external terminals 2a-2n.
