<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive glass preform which does not require fabricating a capillary or a rod into a polygonal pillar shape, which does not have an interstitial site, and from which a light waveguide material with a periodic structure free of disorder in the cross-sectional direction can be made, and its manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: The glass preform for drawing is characterized in that the glass preform has a plurality of glass capillaries and at least one glass rod; that a glass outer cylinder with its bottom part sealed is filled with the glass capillaries and the glass rod, provided that the glass capillaries and the rod are fused and integrated together and so are the capillaries with each other; and that the holes of the glass capillaries are periodically arranged in the cross-sectional direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
