<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display in which a degradation in display quality is suppressed by consistently shielding the channel region of a TFT against light, and to provide a method for manufacturing the display. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display includes a transparent substrate 1 and a liquid crystal layer disposed on the principal face of the transparent substrate 1. The following elements are formed on the principal face of the transparent substrate 1. They are: gate lines 60 running in the row direction; source lines 12 running in the column direction; TFTs 76 formed near the intersections of the gate lines 60 and the source lines and having a semiconductor layer 4 including a channel region 10; a first light shielding layer 2 formed in the transparent substrate side of the channel region 10; a second light shielding layer 16 formed in the liquid crystal layer side of the channel region 10; and a third light shielding layer 61 opposing to the gate lines 60 across the channel region 10. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
