PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric double layer capacitor sealed with a flexible sheathing material for surely releasing the pressure when the internal pressure increases. SOLUTION: In this electric double layer capacitor sealed with the flexible sheathing material, a pressure release valve 1 is arranged on the flexible sheathing materials; and the pressure release valve 1 is provided with a flange part 2 air-tightly joined to the flexible sheathing material and a cylindrical part 3 connected to the flange part, and projected to the outside of a container; and the cylindrical part 3 is provided with a tip end part 5 having a self-occlusive passage 6 to communicate with the outside only when the pressure is released and to be closed in a normal time, and a duct part 4 communicates with the inside of the container.
