PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide biodegradable latently crimpable polylactic acid conjugate fiber multifilaments giving woven/knitted fabrics with moderate stretchability and puffy touch feeling. SOLUTION: The multifilaments consist of conjugate fibers. The conjugate fiber is such one that two polylactic acid polymers≥95% in optical purity differing in number-average molecular weight from each other are mutually conjugated side-by-side fashion, the joint between both of the polymers in the fiber cross section is curved, and assuming that the intersection of a line X passing through the center of a segment (ab) joining two points of contact (a) and (b) between the joint and the fiber outer circumference and orthogonal to the segment (ab) with the fiber outer circumference of the lactic acid polymer with higher number-average molecular weight is (c), the intersection with the joint is (d), and the intersection of the segment (cd) with the segment (ab) is (e), the segment length ratio:de/cd is 0.05-0.80, and the CV(%) for the ratio:de/cd for the multifilament is 3-30%. The crimp percent of this conjugate fiber after subjected to boiling water treatment is≥40%. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
