<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas purifying catalyst capable of retaining the catalytic activity of Pt on a high level over a prolonged period of time and capable of ensuring excellent exhaust gas purifying performance. <P>SOLUTION: The exhaust gas purifying catalyst is prepared in such a way that it contains a compound oxide having a perovskite structure represented by the formula A<SB>1-x</SB>A'<SB>x</SB>B<SB>1-y-z</SB>B'<SB>y</SB>Pt<SB>z</SB>O<SB>3</SB>(where A is at least one element selected from among rare earth elements essentially including rare earth elements whose valence does not vary from 3; A' is at least one element selected from the alkaline earth metals and Ag; B is at least one element selected from Fe, Mn and Al; B' is at least one element selected from among transition elements other than Pt, Fe, Mn, Co or the rare earth elements; x, y and z represent atomic ratio; 0<x≤0.5; 0≤y<0.5; and 0<z≤0.5). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
