PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium of which the manufacturing cost can be reduced by omitting a film formation of a nickel-phosphorous (Ni-P) alloy layer. SOLUTION: This magnetic recording medium has a glass substrate to which texture process is applied. The glass substrate is provided with a magnetic recording layer. Dispersion layers in which the prescribed element is dispersed are formed in the glass substrate, the prescribed element has electric negativity being larger than the prescribed value, and has ion radius being larger than sodium.
