PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tile type display device the size of which is easily increased and decreased and operates with a simple communication protocol. SOLUTION: The tile type display device 8 includes a display controller 12 which receives image data from an image data source 14 and sets the format of the image data for display and a plurality of display tiles each having a display pixel array, a memory 36, and a communication interface. One of the plurality of display tiles 10 is connected to the display controller 12 and they are connected in series through communication interfaces; and the display controller 12 sends image data for the whole image to the one display tile and the respective display tiles successively stores portions of the image data to be displayed and transfers the remaining image data to next display tiles in the series.
