PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plunger restraining tool for a rachet-type tensioner capable of easily preventing a plunger from jutting-out during tensioner installing work to an engine or chain installing/removing work, and reducing a manufacturing load of a tensioner itself and a manufacturing cost required therefor. SOLUTION: The plunger restraining tool 10 is used for the rachet-type tensioner 20 so as to temporary restrain jutting-out of the plunger 23. In the plunger restraining tool 10, a forked restraining piece 11 inserted and clipped between a housing main body 22 and a rachet claw element 24 while laid over a rachet claw element spring 25 in a recessed groove 22A, and a pinching piece 12 extending from the restraining piece 11 and projected out to the outside of the housing main body 22 are integrally structured.
