Method for processing and visualizing distributed stored data in which defined data sets are separately assigned to processing and viewing objects. The distributed objects are assigned to different or the same projects and visualization of the assignments and data storage locations is undertaken using a separate viewing and processing selection field in a multiplicity of user work stations within the network topology of the projects so that the data storage locations can be viewed and characterized as active.
